My first "grown-up quilt"
for myself was a memory t-shirt quilt. I saved every bit of t-shirts for many
years. Every cross-country, soccer, pep-rally, homecoming, and sports jerseys that I was allowed to keep went into a bag to be saved. When I first
started to look at t-shirt quilt designs, everyone seemed to take a few prized
shirts and display them with fabric boarders in between. My problem with that
was that ALL my t-shirts had memories behind them, so how could I choose just nine or twelve of the t-shirts from my collection? I
began to cut out all the important parts and I saved every emblem, number, and
name that I could. Some of my t-shirts only had a little embroidered emblem
that I wanted to save, but those emblems were extremely important to me.

My prized possession! This was the "piecing" stage of my geometric t-shirt quilt.
Sorry the picture is not the best, this was 2011 or 2012 and much prior to the blog. |

Here the binding was pinned on and ready to be sewn.
The family Chihuahua was eyeing my quilt. |
Since I don't own a twin bed right now, the quilt is unfortunately packed away until I figure out some way to display it. One of my long term goals is to eventually have a quilt rack in my bedroom to showcase my hard work.

The finished project! |

It's perfect! The only thing I wish I would've done differently, is choose a lighter weight interfacing.
It is so not a summer blanket. |
