Reclaimed Wood Stocking Holder

One day last spring, the fence behind our house lost quite a few boards in a wind storm. Our neighborhood association was supposed to come fix the fence and never did. So I happened to clean up a few of the boards into my garage, where they sat patiently until I figured out what I wanted to do with them. I saw this post on pinterest and immediately fell in love.

I didn't take pictures of the boards before I cut them, but they were your standard 6-feet tall fence pieces. One of the boards was a little less than 6-feet tall because it had broke in multiple places when it came off of the main section of the fence during the wind storm. I decided to cut each piece 1-foot long, and left the width as is.

Here's what I ended up with! I was trying to figure out placement for my letters

Merry is just too big

on to painting and adding a rustic look to it

and here is what I hope it will look like!!

I had to figure out how to hang it.
Solution? wire and hooks from an old kit I bought to hang picture frames

here's the back side, all finished!

And my final finished product WITH the stockings hung!
