I decided soon after Kara, from ByKara Photography, photographed my sister's wedding that I NEEDED (okay really, really, reeeeeally wanted) her to take pictures for my partner and I. After arranging with her, the exciting part was what should we wear? Part of why I wanted her to take our pictures is because I love her work. The other part is that I do not have a single good picture of my partner and I and our dogs. They are my family and I want a nice picture that I can hang up in my house, and maybe use for Christmas cards :) So part of this caveat of course became that the DOGS must have something to wear! Our little chihuahua has sweaters, but we're taking pictures at the end of June, that just wouldn't work...
So I decided to make a bow-tie for him. And is it ever the cutest little bow-tie! Like I said, I'm terrible at following patterns or measuring things. I mostly followed this pattern, however, I realized I had not finished the bow-tie the night before so I fudged it a bit. Also, he is a 4 lb chihuahua (on a good day), like if I would've made it any bigger or different, it may not have fit him or it would have looked strange!
So our lovable German Shepherd had to have something equally as fabulous. The only type of clothing she does well with are bandanas that are attached to her collar. (and she wouldn't look as handsome in a bow-tie as Gagey does). So I set out to make two different coordinating bandanas since I didn't have the exact colors I wanted.
It basically starts out as a 12 x 12 or 13 x 13 square. After that you taper one end in the middle. Sew right sides together, almost all the way around.
Turn and sew all the way around the bandana the last time. Then fold the top part down to make a flap that the collar can slide through. The example I had was about 2.5 inches, so that is what I made mine. Sew the bottom edge of the flap and whala! Bandanas!
My partner said well now you need to find some STL Blues fabric... haha aka his favorite team. I think that was code for "I approve."
