The Quillow (Strip Quilt Version)

This is a throwback post, but I have yet to showcase any of my quilts. For this quilt, I raided my mom's stash for remnants and wanted to create something that was scrappy and lovable. Quilts are meant to be used! Plus, by the time I thought to create this wonder, I had about 3 days before I needed to have it finished. Chaining all these strips together was just the simple project I needed in Christmas 2012. It is a "quillow blanket," so the back side includes a pocket to put your feet in or to fold the blanket up into a pillow. Grandma made quillows for each grandchild, great-grandchild, and great-great-grandchild (about 30 of us), so the pattern is ingrained into my mind. I hardly think when I whip up quillows, which usually take a day when using big fabric pieces.

She absolutely loved the quilt (and actually carried it around with her the whole night after she opened it). Last year she sent me a picture of her husband and her grandbaby using the blanket outside:

It's always a wonderful feeling to see a quilt being loved!!
